Mark Bowden does it again. In Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War, he captures all points of view — from the Army Ranger to the White House to the Somali civilian, to the warlord.
Like his book Killing Pablo, Bowden tells a complex story in an absolutely riveting manner. I listened to this book on tape and it was the same very talented reader as the guy who did Killing Pablo.
I highly recommend this book.

Just read the best book I’ve read all year – “The Lexus and the Olive Tree” by Thomas L. Friedman. It’s a book that discusses globalization and the post-Cold War forces driving changes to world economics, politics, culture, and tradition.
Each point the author makes is followed by a number of anectotes from his own experience, mostly interesting and entertaining.
I read a 1999 UK-printed paperback that my Dad lent me in Australia, but here in the US it’s avail in hardcover, softcover, Audio CD, Microsoft Reader, etc etc.
