Interesting indeed, I would have expected a 50%-50% split between male and female first names. I do have another theory that backs up the wide spread of those male first names: some of them are used identically in other languages as well. For instance David is spelled the same in English, Spanish, French, Italian, Romanian and probably other languages as well. So is Daniel and Paul or Michael and Chris(English, German).
